چکیده

Background: Review of the Iraqi literatures reviled that there are several works have been done on gastrointestinal tract birds, but we didn’t find research work include details information related with common wood pigeon from environment
Aim: The current study aimed to investigate anatomy and histology intestine in (Columba palumbus).
Materials methods: Animals were collected Al-Najaf desert, methods Humason Bancroft Stevens employed for histological study.
Results: Anatomical results divided into parts represented by duodenum, ileum, rectum. Histologically wall all as other birds possessed four layers (mucosa, sub-mucosa, muscularis externa, serosa). structural differences duodenum villi which long extensions epithelium mucosa. Results showed ileum shorter than those appeared a leaf-like shape. Large rectum exhibit different features mucosa, flat wide (leaf-like shape),and lumen was wider small intestine.
Conclusion: present some mucosa shape intestine. mucosal simple columnar epithelium, numerous goblet cells scattered

Genetic analyses of visual pigments of the pigeon (Columba livia).

We isolated five classes of retinal opsin genes rh1(Cl), rh2(Cl), sws1(Cl), sws2(Cl), and lws(Cl) from the pigeon; these encode RH1(Cl), RH2(Cl), SWS1(Cl), SWS2(Cl), and LWS(Cl) opsins, respectively. Upon binding to 11-cis-retinal, these opsins regenerate the corresponding photosensitive molecules, visual pigments. The absorbance spectra of visual pigments have a broad bell shape with the peak,...

Caudal duplication (dipygus) in a Rock Pigeon (Columba livia)

Congenital defects are those abnormalities present at birth that result from errors arising during development (Noden and de la Hunta, 1985). Congenital duplications are interesting among congenital defects because they are composed by two individuals. Multiple births most frequently result from fertilization of separately ovulated female gametes. However, complete or partial separation of clea...

pigeon Columba liÕia and their potential role in brain lateralisation

In pigeons, visual object processing is lateralised with a dominance of the left tectofugal system. To test the hypothesis, that avian visual lateralisation may arise, at least in part, from asymmetric interhemispheric inhibition, the intertectal modulation was quantified in 19 pigeons. Field potentials were recorded from intratectal electrodes in response to a stroboscope flash to the contrala...
